Episode #018 - Low Magick

In the latest episode of The Infinite and the Beyond, we welcome back author Lon Milo DuQuette and talk about the rerelease of his Tarot of Ceremonial Magick and his new book Low Magick: It’s all in your head… You just have no idea how big your head is and we touch upon some of what he mentions in it; like his discomfort with the ideas of low and high magick, his concept of The Great G, pop goes Ganesha, and the celebrating of Christmas as a non-Christian.

We discuss my appearance on Beyond the Threshold with Gary Blackheart that occurred back in November. Gary took me beyond the threshold and we discussed some touchy and often difficult issues that I have mentioned in the past on this podcast. I elaborate on my crisis of faith and come to some refreshing conclusions.

In A Corner in the Occult we learn about The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage and ceremonial goal of one attaining Knowledge and Conversation with their Holy Guardian Angel. The most familiar edition of the book was translated in 1900 by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers for incorporation into the curriculum of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The book reveals a ritual procedure that becomes a pinnacle goal for ceremonial magickians of the western esoteric tradition.

Later we talk about “words of power” in the Essence of Magick series and look into language, words, and meaning and the roles they play in magick and ritual. I also read listener email and we have a good time as always!

Podcast featured on The Juggler!

I missed this article!

Thank you to Tim Titus, a writer from The Juggler (PNC Project), for his October 29th article "Voices of the Elders Part II: Voices of the departed" which talked about podcasts that highlighted the ancestors of the modern pagan movement.  Of the many podcasts mention, he closed part II of his article series by focusing on The Infinite and the Beyond, and stated:

"The best resource for a detailed education on our spiritual ancestors is The Infinite and the Beyond, hosted by Christopher Orapello."

He then went on to list the current 16 episodes (at the time) with their corresponding A Corner in the Occult topics for the interested reader/listener.

Thank you to Tim Titus for spotlighting the podcast and for the work that you do at The Juggler!

This is a scanned cover of my copy of How to Find a Ghost by James M. Deem (Avon Camelot, 1988). This is the book that I purchased on paranormal investigation when I was very young.  And yes, I still have it.

Something is wrong with Podcast Alley. The feed is not updating and listeners are informing me that they are unable to vote for the show.  I have tried to contact Podcast Alley twice and have yet to hear anything from them.  People on their forum are also experiencing similar problems with no results or help from the people from the website.  Something is wrong.  It's like it has been abandoned.  If anyone has any insight or connections to the people at Podcast Alley please alert them to this problem.  The last entry for their site Blog was back in September.

Thank you.  Hopefully this will get fixed.

Episode #017 - Ghosts and Loyd Auerbach

In the latest episode of The Infinite and the Beyond, we speak to Parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach about his experiences as a paranormal investigator. Loyd runs the Office of Paranormal Investigations out in California and has been consulted and featured on many shows dealing with hauntings and the paranormal. Loyd talks to us about being a parapsychologist, ghosts, educational opportunities, investigating, and we even discuss some of the current television shows that depict paranormal investigation. I share some of my own personal ghost stories, one of which occurred when I was very young and the other when I was much older. My interest in the paranormal started from this very early experience as a child; while the other experience taught me that you never know when you're being watched and by whom. We learn about famous escape artist and medium debunker Harry Houdini in A Corner in the Occult. Can you untie knots with your toes? Houdini could! Learn about this famous magician, his battle with the spiritualist movement during the early 20th century and why he is spotlighted in this episode's edition of A Corner in the Occult. Also in the episode, I read listener email. We see which listener won a copy of Jeva Singh-Anand’s book Bed Time Stories for the Faint of Heart. And in The Essence of Magick Series we discuss the ideas behind magickal intent and learn about what makes it up and how much it applies to greater scope of one's existence and not exclusively to the practice of magick. This is a real fun episode. I hope enjoy it!

Episode #016 - A Crisis of Faith

In this episode we talk with fellow podcaster and author Jeva Singh-Anand about his new book Bedtime Stories for the Faint of Heart. Jeva is the host of the Lance and Graal podcast and Professor Zarnoff’s Channel on YouTube. We also discuss his background as a former Christian Fundamentalist and what happened to cause him to move away from his life as a fundamentalist. I go back to lodge after a year of staying away from it and I share my experiences about that return. We learn about 16th century heresy in this episode’s edition of A Corner in the Occult as we learn about Father Giordano Bruno. I read a single listener message to a nostalgic pagan podcaster music track. I also announce a contest for this episode. We start The Essence of Magick Series by looking into “Belief and Magick.” How much does belief really play into the practice and effect of magick and how does one apply the will to their magick and how do such acts differ from mundane acts which may be of a similar content and nature. We hear a great music track from Tenpenny Joke an Alternative Australian band who may not be a pagan band, but who absolutely rocks none-the-less and we are glad to have them in this episode! And to close we look into crises of faith, what they are, and why they’re actually beneficial for one’s spiritual growth and a positive sign of one’s dedication to their path. All this and more in this great episode, Blessed Be and 93!

Featured Music: Tenpenny Joke, XTC, REM

Hidden Wisdom by Tim Wallace-Murphy

Tim Wallace-Murphy, co author of Rosslyn, The Knights of the Holy Grail, and other books dealing with the Knights Templar and the Freemasons, presents humankind’s pursuit to enlightenment with his new release Hidden Wisdom, Secrets of the Western Esoteric Tradition.

In this book Tim Wallace-Murphy takes a look into the evolution of human spirituality and its relationship as a species to divinity and the manifested world throughout the periods of civilization. Starting with the dawn of time and continuing up to the present day, he provides a historical commentary on the growth of thought and through his focus establishes a chain of understanding while revealing some of the pivotal relationships that exist between the faiths, theologies, philosophies as well as the political, social, industrial and technological elements of human growth that have developed over the continuance of human history.

Wallace-Murphy carries the student of the western esoteric tradition through the trials and tribulations of the human spirit; through dark times of old with the hope to reveal a greater light in the knowledge and education of humanity’s attempt at being bigger than God and in their own failures of such short minded schools of logic. It is a true holographic view of humanity and the chronology of the human experience through the eyes of an esoteric historian.

Hidden Wisdom exposes the chiseling of the perfection of the great human experiment and reminds us of the past so that we can hope for a better future. Written with a passion for the triumph of the human soul, Hidden Mysteries is sure to remind us all of where we need to be heading as a planetary whole in mind, body, and spirit by revealing where we’ve been while establishing a starting point for us so that we may better reach our potential in the coming new age.

*This review was written for Disinformation who provided a copy of the book for review.

PSA: Website and NING Updates

In anticipation for the changes of NING.com....

... I have updated the website and I created a YouTube Channel and a Flickr account so I added links for videos and pictures to the side bar for future show use.  I also added and moved some things around on the home page of the show website.

... I've made the decision to discontinue using a network feature for the show, because NING is now charging money and I didn't like any of the dozen other services I looked into to replace the NING Network.  So, any membership stuff will be done via Facebook since that is doing so well.  And when the next thing comes along to replace Facebook I'll move to that when it becomes popular.  For the record, I would have kept the NING network if they stayed with their free format.

... I've updated the links page by removing links that have become obsolete.

... I changed my mind on reinstituting the chat room on the show website because it never took off.  Now trust me I really wanted to have a show chat room too! I still have the itch for it. *scratch*

I think that's it.... Just wanted to make that stuff known.

Kreative Blogger Award!

The other day I was nominated for a Kreative Blogger Award by Oraia the Sphinx, hostess of Media Astra Ac Terra, The Scrying Bowl Podcast, and author of the Sphinx Words Blog who really isn't a cartoon sphinx. I have proof!

1. You must thank the (mythical cartoon animal) person who has given you the award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog (Booya!)
3. Link the person who has nominated you for the award (Ding!)
4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting

The seven things people may find interesting about me...

1. I've mentioned my art background in brief on my podcast which is what this blog is mainly for.  I received my BFA in 2001 from Rowan University and my MFA in 2009 from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.  And I was one of the workers who helped to build the World War II Memorial located in Washington DC and because of my participation in it I am one of the people listed on the Smithsonian website for it. I think everyone listed from the company got the same accreditation for the memorial, but I helped with the eagles; I worked on one of the wreathes and helped with finishing their installation; and another employee and I assembled the eight bronze columns which sit under each of the eight eagles.

2. I also had the honor of being asked to create a 9/11 Memorial for the Freemasons who tragically lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Further info and pictures can be found at the link provided.

3. I am a connoisseur of horror movies if that's an appropriate statement?  My first horror movie experience, not including Jaws or Poltergeist, was 1986 film The Fly directed by David Cronenberg and staring Jeff Goldblum; and being around 10 years old at the time, this movie scared the  living shit out of me!  For about a week after watching it, I couldn't sleep and I thought the Fly was coming to get me. No joke. Absolutely terrified.  Now when I watch that movie I am able recognize the slime, latex rubber, and animatronic movemements that make up the prop of the final creature, but as a child I was completely sold! Some of my long standing favorite horror movies are Night of the Living DeadDawn of the Dead, Day of the DeadCemetery Man, and Jason X.

4. For the last six years I have been a Freemason and if I told you anything else I would have to kill you. Just kidding. Maybe. There has to be something said about an organization -that a lot of people regard as being a secret society- who have their buildings out in the open, who will be a part of any parade, and that if someone wants to join all they have to do is ask.  Real secret.  Freemasonry is a good thing.  I've met the best people in the world through the fraternity and it really has helped me to become a better person.  My girlfriend, who I've been with for almost nine years, would completely stand by that statement.

5. I am also involved with doing cover art for a quaterly print magazine of dark imaginative fiction called Title Goes Here: and my first cover will be displayed on Issue #4 which comes out in July.

6. I'm pretty good at doing impressions which you may or may not agree with me on if you've listened to my podcast.  Though I've only done a few on the show so far with possibly more to come.  I also like to entertain people hence the podcast.

7. I have had several paranormal experiences and my interests in the paranormal has existed throughout my life since I was very young and a story for that can be found here.  I have my own investigation team who can be found here (the website needs to be reworked).  We have not been active in over a year due to my new podcasting interest, but also due to not being contacted.  I do enjoy recording EVP at locations and I find it fascinating, but I've gotten enough of them to make me content about the anomally. Also my equipment doesn't enable me to do any further research into the occurrence so if I'm not able to do this for other people, like for someone who contacted me, then I'm not likely to do it.

Episode #13 in the works

As the subject lines states, episode #13 is in the works.  It has gone through some interesting and yet fun changes in the last week. I love inspiration, but I hate that it makes me undo so much previous work which causes things to be delayed.  The one thing I always regret is that I am never able to keep a regular schedule with the show and I'm always sorry about this. I wish I could be like some podcasters who can churn out episodes every week, every other week, or even monthly. *sigh* I'm always thinking about the show and planning, but the writing and the prep work always makes things drag out, hence 6 to 7 weeks on average between each episode.  I hope to have episode 13 out within the next week or so.

Website Updates

As some of you may have noticed, the frappr/platial map died around the time I published episode eleven and it doesn't appear to be coming back.  I would love to have something similar to the map on the website again, but until I find something that is simple and practical like the previous map was, there will be no map which makes me sad. :-( I really liked watching the map develop and check out all the people who joined.  Thank you to those of you who joined the map when it was up!  It was great to see where you all were in the world and where the show was being enjoyed!  Thank you!

Incidentally, another widget causality has also befallen the website. Snapvine (the voice messaging service) is also ending by the end of the month. So, I have removed it from the show website. I tried myvox as a replacement, but I was unable to log in using their own codes and numbers to create a greeting for the voice mail so I scrapped that service too. *sigh*

Why Platial Map? Why Snapvine? Why? Come back to me please! *sigh*

I do hope to have replacements for both features in the near future, but I'll have to wait and see. Wish me luck.

Frappr / Platial Map....

Hmm... as it turns out some of the widgets that have up to this point been very reliable have decided to come to an end.

1) The Frappr map seems to have ended its service and I am looking into a possible replacement for it.  Unfortunately this may result in losing everyone who already listed themselves on the map. I'm sorry for this :-(

2) The snapvine widget which allows voice messages will also be closing its doors at the end if the month. Oi - Vey!

I have to look into how to resolve these two issues.  Thank you for your patience.

LOL... is Mercury in retrograde?

Episode #011 - Coincidence and Synchronicity

In this coincidental episode we explore the Principle of Cause and Effect as we continue with our journey through The Kybalion. We talk with South Jersey singer songwriter Stacey Fitzpatrick and I play some of her music during the episode. In A Corner in the Occult we learn about influential Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung and his ideas of the Archetype, the Collective Unconscious, and Synchronicity. I read listener email. We find out who won the resin pentacle wall plaque from Episode 10 and I announce the music CD contest for episode 12! We talk with local High Priest PanOrpheus about divination and his upcoming workshop at the Ecumenicon Interfaith Conference occurring at the end of March in Potomac, Maryland. To close, I try and make sense of all this crazy stuff. Enjoy!

I assume (ass-u-me) if I add the episode with the current highest downloads and the episode with the current lowest and divide that by two, that would give me a good estimate on the amount of listeners this podcast has. The NING Network

Who was I kidding right? I should have known myself better in that me playing with the idea of creating a NING network for the podcast would just lead me to actually making a NING network for the podcast!

For those unaware as to what a NING Network is, a NING network is like having Myspace for yourself and your friends (best analogy possible, and similar to webs.com).  I don't mean a myspace page for you and your friends, I mean Myspace.com itself!  And if you're already on Witch School (http://www.witchschool.com/) or Paganspace.net (http://figure_it_out) then you're already on the NING Network and you should join the show site on there as well! :-)

The Show NING Network combines all of the regular features found on the website and other social networking sites.  There is a chat, a forum, a place for pictures and video. It allows members who have their own pages on the network (similar to having a myspace, paganspace, or facebook page). The Frappr map can be found there, there is also a player for the show so the podcast can be listened to. RSS feeds for the regular show blog and a blog for the show notes are also found there. Members can create groups, friend other members, chat, post pictures and videos, as well as post in the forum which may become the official show forum as I already allowed the network chat room to replace the show chat room since it had it's own and it just functions better.

The NING Network site could become a serious central hub for the podcast along with the website (http://www.infinite-beyond.com/) which will still contain all show links, show info, scripts, and the library.  It could really establish an interesting online aspect to the show itself, it just needs YOU to help make live up to its full potential!

The NING network can be found at http://infinite-beyond.ning.com/ and a link for it is also listed within the sidebar on the show website.

Please become a part of network!

Thank you everyone for your time, attention, and support!

The Podcast Ning Network!

At the moment I am playing with the idea of having a NING network for the show which could combine all the various elements that I already have for the show (forum, blog, chat, etc) which can be found all over the internet via the show website. Any thoughts?

The NING network can currently be found at
http://infinite-beyond.ning.com

Please let me know what you think of this idea. I'm not entirely familair with NING other than my experiences with it via Paganspace.net

Episode #010 - Death and Necromancy

In this extra long landmark episode we talk about death, the greatest rite of passage of them all by addressing its meaning and reality as well as how it affects the meaning of life. We talk to Ray Sette about being a Psychic Astrologer. We learn about Dr. John Dee, Sir Edward Kelley, and Enochian Magic in A Corner in the Occult. I read listener email. We find out which two lucky listeners won the goathead wall plaques from Episode #008. I share some personal stories regarding my experiences with death and medical cadavers. And to close we discuss Necromancy and Electronic Voice Phenomena.

EVP Video "To Bring Things to You"

**Play at MAX Volume to hear EVP**

**EVP can be heard 5 to 6 seconds into footage**

While in the garage area of a home which is a separate structure from the house and completely empty, a very clear female voice was recorded in this video. It should be noted that throughout the investigation we had been making note of any outside noises like dogs or people which is evident in this clip by the noting of the barking dog. In this clip you first hear a dog bark but then you hear a quiet female voice speaking in the background saying "to bring things to you" which is the EVP. This EVP is then followed by two of the present individuals both saying "hello" at the same time. It is not believed that they are reacting to the EVP but are openly speaking out to the space. No one makes a comment about hearing the EVP and no one claims to have heard it during the investigation. The voice was found upon reviewing the audio and video footage.

Episode #010 Has Begun!

I started recording Episode #010 - Death and Necromancy yesterday and I'm currently 40 minutes into the show of which will probably end up being around 200 minutes in length. I'm not doing an extra long show on purpose because it's the tenth episode as I like to keep the show under 120 minutes for those who like to burn the show to a CD, but it's going to be longer than normal due to all the material I wanted to include. It just so happens to be the tenth episode and around the one year mark for the show which started on January 25th of last year.

I hope to have the show out within the next couple of days. *crosses fingers*

Wish me luck and be on the look out for Episode #010 - Death and Necromancy!

Episode #010 Update

I just wanted to message everyone about episode 10. I'm still involved with writing it and I hope it will be another enjoyable episode. I only wish I could keep some kind of schedule with producing the episodes, but that seems to be the one thing which eludes me in regards to this podcast. But I try to work on show when I can. Though between life and my job I'm sometimes too tired to sit at the computer at the end of the day to write anything for it. *sigh* But I try.

Just rest assure that it is in the works and I hope to be recording it soon!
