Episode #024 - Between Oraia and Helene

In this episode we speak with fellow podcaster Oraia Helene from Between the Earth and Stars and talk about her recent changes with her name, doing her shows, how she balances her scientific side with her magickal side, and to close we discuss her work as a writer and podcaster and have a great time while doing it.  We also speak with Inanna Gabriel from Misanthrope Press regarding the new pagan story anthology Etched Offerings Voices from the Cauldron of Story.  In A Corner in the Occult, we learn about Scientist, Thelemite and 20th century Occultist Jack Parsons who, interestingly enough, has a crater on the moon named after him. Listen and found out why! And later in the show we discuss the Powers of the Sphinx in The Essence of Magick. To know, to dare, to will, to keep silent, and to go are crucial to the developing student of mysticism. Also in the episode we feature a great song from the Philadelphia band Espers an emerging indie band and we close the show with a special musical holiday treat from SCHOLAR the occultist and rapper. All this and more in this delightful episode!

  1. Congratulations on yet another very interesting show. I must admit though that I need to listen probably a couple more times to be sure I've heard it all since I often choose to listen either while relaxing or in a state of semi-conscious exhaustion while trying to relax. In either case I often fall asleep but that is a good thing for my purposes.

Listening to your interview I did pick up on some experiences and opinions held in common which is always nice to hear. Yes, I will do it again, maybe this time as I'm working or driving so as to not miss anything. Thanks once more.

  2. Thanks Loyd! May I inquire about what were the common experiences and opinions?

  3. Yes, Chris, you may inquire but first I'll have to listen again and consciously make notes as to various degrees of warm fuzzys here and there. Plus, there is also that Sphinx thing to consder.

  4. Chris,

"Will the Illustrious One hear me a little longer? Silently the Buddha nodded his consent... according to your teachings, this unity and logical consequence of all things is broken in one place... that is your doctrine of rising above the world, of salvation... not to explain the world to those who are thirsty for knowledge... its goal is salvation from suffering... nothing else... you have done so by your own seeking... you have learned nothing through teachings...nobody finds salvation through teachings... this clear, worthy instruction does not contain... the secret of what the Illustrious One himself experienced." - Siddhartha (H. Hesse)

Of particular note on the podcast the topic of experience(s) being subjective... as mentioned science also knows this all too well and so generally favors and best documents experiences which fall well into a broad consensus whereby such items are deemed "true". That said, there is still much knowledge edging in with dissonance, wherefrom much if not all progress may ultimately appear.

I have a couple articles posted on my own blog which have the search tag "endorphin" for rapid location. One discusses the endorphin rush of contemplation while the other the endorphin rush of scientific discovery. You might find these interesting to compare with your interview notes.

I also posted one short story which melds a bit of the mystical with some science thrown in which is titled "The BasIs of Knowledge and Power". All of it is of course for the benefit of good fiction but fun nonetheless.

Again, I enjoyed listening perhaps a couple of times already and might do so again to catch any gaps.

  5. P.S. Yes, for most things practice makes perfect, or as close as one can hope to get.
